Once upon a time there was a lady who did a lot of handquilting. When she got older she couldn't do it anymore. She didn't know what to do with the tops lying around, and she asked her sister if she would want them. Her sister couldn't quilt and didn't have the space at her home for them so... she asked if I and my DH would wanted them, if we didn't she would trow them away.

Of course we wanted them, couldn't think about them in the trash. When they came ( 2 quilttops) I just couldn't believe someone would trow them away. My DH did the quilting on the first one, it took so much patience and so much love, but it's a treasure. They didn't want them back, so we are the lucky ones. This one has a place in our bedroom, it's just so so so perfect.

I hope my kids will treasure our quilts when we are old. I had to share it with you.

Senna is sewing

Being Summer holiday here, I had to make sure the kids where doing something creative too. So they started to make some mug rugs for there tea when schools starts in September. Senna loves it, and Sophie too. Here Senna is making his blocks for his mug rug. I will be showing it when it's totaly done.

I'm so glad I have a Bernina, it's such a easy machine. The kids do know it, and are not afraid of it.

Do you let you're kid work on you're machine.

PS : Dh has made the two first rows of the Civilwarquilt, I will post about it later, he isn't please about one block, but the rest is to die for.

scrapquilt

I just love scrapquilts, the only problem, don't get my scraps organized... but this time I did. I had a lot of blue scraps lying around and they just wanted to be used. So here they are. Not a big quilt, but will be perfect for the table or a baby maybe.

For the rest, it's the summer holiday here in Belgium. So the kids are coming and going, sleepovers, parties and all the rest. Sophie has probably a lactose problem, so we will have to look closely and make sure she doesn't drink milk. She hates it, she may not have any cheese... poor child.

apart from Cote D'Or I recall when I lived in Mechelen from 0 to 8 yrs of age I loved getting Chocotof? spelling not sure but it was toffee surrounded by dark chocolate, oh and then there was this wafer chewy bar with I think a bee on the wrapper. Haven't been back to Belgium ohh i'd guess for 5 years now! Miss the sweeties!

We do love those Chocotoffs too, they are so so so yummy, sadly they are always so fast gone too. I've send you a mail for you're adresse and will send it asap. Have a lot of fun with the fabric and those Chocotoffs.

I'm off sewing a little bit more, Sophie is back on the sofa reading a little of Jude Deveraux, the hansome guy's in those books will cheer her up. Yesterdag we went to the doctor and he told her she couldn't eat french fries for the moment .... you should have seen her face, poor her. So I think I will be making some brownies later too.

Let's start with the good news, I did finish my charmed quilt. I used the half of a charme pack and made this, just love it. It's big enough for a baby and looks so cheerfull.

Of course took the picture and is'nt that great, still have to learn how to make dashing pics. Here my close up, better much better taken.

Then the bad news, do you have the same problem or is it really just me. Everytime I tell someone with small kids that getting sick all the time really gets better when the aged.... you guessed it right, one of mine get sick. Our Sophie has a fever, soar throut and can't eat. Her daddy maked a joke when she came home (she really always has something, teenager, you know) and she couldn't even smile with it, suddenly the tears came up. DH didn't know how to react, that was kind of funny, she just wanted her mum, no dad this time. Tomorrow we will go to the doctor, poor girl, she had made such plans for the coming days. Dad will have to do his best to get back in favor with her. Normally those two can't be apart for a second.

I love civilwar, just love it. http://civilwarquilts.blogspot.com/ the blocks are amazing and I get to work in inches. Those four blocks I've made, so far so good. One problem we do have... we do need more blue.

But, when I wanted to make another block, I did get in problem with the inches. I still have to learn a lot, really a lot. Marc (my DH) get the inches, he does do some quilting himself, but has no time for the moment. He went back to school to get a Law degree, that and working fulltime, no quilting time. I do believe that you need to do something outside work and raising the kids, so quilting is me time. I asked Marc to help me out with the block, and ...well you guessed it, he made it and had such fun with it, that he made a second block. He did swear a little, he does that when it doesn't go his way. LOL

He will be making more blocks because it give him a little time off, of everthing. I made fun of it and told him, he could do his side of the bedquilt, and would made mine....

I had some fun yesterday, got beautiful fabric from this wonderfull lady http://www.1choice4quilting.com/ I just had to do something with it, you know the problem. I made this one with a charme-pack. It will look great on my table once quilted.

I also started a DJ for my DD, and with the little leftovers, I will make some wonky-stars, I just love how they look, so bright.

Her first two blocks for her DJ. You can see, it's really a vibrant Dear Jane. I know Sophie will love it.

I also did managed to finish my Qaucker sampler, only problem there, I do need the right frame. My DH amazed me, even he liked it. Strange, he is the kind of men who loves colors...

And now a treat, look at my fabrics, you know those from http://www.1choice4quilting.com/ I feld in love with the umbrella's, don't know yet what to do with them, but I know it will be a fab quilt at the end. You have to go over, she is so so so sweet, and the package was so great. I will go back shopping for some more great fabrics.

I've made this quilt for my son. He just loves it, bright and big enough. I had so much blue fabric from shirts that I really had to do something with it. My DH made with the leftovers a other quilt, that I will show you when it's all done. You know men, it has to be perfect.

The other one is for our youngest son, who's just 8 years old. I bought the gardfield fabric years ago... really long long long time ago. Finally I did something with it. I'm glad it's out the closet, now I do have space for some more fabric...

We had such a good weather here, sun, sun and again sun... I started to make the blocks for Leanne's house, so I can do the stitching in the garden. I bought this a while ago, and I'm so in love with it, but also afraid of it. It's all so little. Hope you all have a wonderfull week.

A story about my youngest son. Last he took a glass and put it on his chin. He had taken the air out of it en it left a big purple mark on his chin. The next day I asked him what he would say at school about it. The chin still looked purple. He looked at me with is big brown eyes and said 'I'll tell everybody I have an allergic reaction'. He couldn't tell the kids what he had done, because it really was stupid. I hope he just learned a lesson.

Daughter's room

Our DD has changed room with her brother. The biggest problem about that is, there are a lot between a 18 year old son and a 14 year old daughter. His color was brown and dark grey, she didn't like it. So we had to do some changes. She wanted to help and started patchwork ... yes she did. I gave her my old Brother sewing machine, and of course some fabrics. And here it is.

First a gift from DH for his daughter, he made it when she was born.

I made her this quilt a year ago, now it looks so great on her bed. Behind her bed, we put fabric on the wall. It's a very difficult wall to paint and we are a creative family so...

A gift for her birthday from a friend, it's so perfect for her, and has now a right spot in her room.

The first attempt to design form my part, I made this a few years ago for my little prinsses, isn't it nice.

And now the really nice part, Sophie her first mini quilts... She did it all by herself. You see not bad for a first attempt. She is so hook, that is starts when she gets up in the morning. Is she a addict ? lol

She also made some flags, just to make it perfect.

We did have a lot of fun, helping her out with her room, and now she is so happy and not depressed. She found her brothers room a depressing room, we did too. Well done darling, we are so proud.

Do you know the problem, having fabrics that you just don't like. I had the problem, and used it to try out working with inches. I came up with this tablecloth. I do like it.

With the rest of it, I'm trying different blocks. I really don't like how the turn out. Don't know what to do with them. I will finish it, and will give to someone who loves the colors in it.

I did manage to finish this little bag for a beautiful little girl. My boys don't like Nijntje anymore, the love skulls... were is the time..

I also started this quilt, thanks to Modabakeshop. It's so easy. The only thing, they are so big the blocks. I'm still having problems thinking in inches. I love the colors in it, so this is really my style.

I'm also still doing some cross stitch on the side. I can't do patchwork at night. I'm someone who lay down on the sofa with a cross stitch or stitching job to do. Ok I admit somethimes I do some knitting. (You should see all the scarves I made last year, lol)

Scrapquilt and Rosetinted...

I always dreamed about a scrapquilt like this, only didn't really get how to. Now I finally do, and I have to say, it's really easy. I'm using all the scraps, don't care about the colorrange for the first time. My DH is even amazed that I dare to go for it. Don't know how big it will be, just go along.

Of course it's not the only thing I've been doing, I did finaly finished a cross stitch from Heaven and Earth. I just love how she turned out. It was a long work, all those diferent colors, but it really pays of.

Now I'm off, making a quilt for one of my best friends. She sadly just go trough a divorce, and need some sunshine. Has a new place of her own that needs colors. I've got something in mind, now just hopes it works out like in my thoughts.

Babyquilt done

I have a few friends who are about too be a mama. Of course when you found out, the joy they will have...you quilt for them. One has a little girl adopted, this was easy to make. I knew the little girl loved bright pink. I love how it turned out, and hope she will too.

Red and whites...

First I did finished my red and white 9 patch. After making one for Vera, we had to have one ourself. Luckly I had some over and this is it. It's perfect on our wall, it covers the door that never opens....

I also made a little coinsquilt for the other wall, just perfect size. I love how it turns out. It's so easy.

I have to say with all the ideas I find on the net, I will have a house full of quilts. No, I'm also making some to give away. Have you seen all the beautiful BOM's around, it's so hard to make a choice. I've been making one block of the BIRDIE BOM and I'm also going to make the civilwarquilt. The links are on the left side of my blog. I'm so in love with both of them. Sophie, my DH is also going to make the BIRDIE one, she is almost 14. I'll post the pics as soon as there done.

Two pillows and the cat

First, our cat. Most favorite pastime... laying on quilts. He loves it, does who are finished of those who still needs work on.

I did finished two pillows for the sofa. Our other pillows were old and needed to be replaced. I still have to make a few more, with 4 kids, you need more. My kids are still doing some stitching or cross stitching, but you'll have to wait for the picture.

I did do something today, I made my first block for the Civilwarquilt, the link is on the blog. I have never been part of any BOM quilt, but this has change. I've look around and have 3 that I really love, I'm going to give it a try. Tomorow I will post a picture of my first block, it's much to dark now.

I've also look to my cross stitch stash and took the first UFO out to finish... The Petal Fairy of Mirabilia, started this one long ago.

You see, have a lot to do, but love it to be busy.

a few this and thats

First of all, my friend Vera loved her quilt. She was so happy, made my day perfect. She is an amazing person, so sweet and gentle to everyone.

The problem with the quilt is...that my DD also loved it, so mum made an other one for her. The top is finished, now I just have to quilt it.

I also tried to make a coinquilt, but that didn't work so good. Now it will be a tablecloth. At the end of the 5th row, I came almost an inch difference. Don't know where it went wrong. I needed a tablecloth anyway.

On cross stitching, did a few more stitching on the Belladonna, and did finish this one. In time for valentine. It's all red for the moment here, just love to love.

Yesterday the kids asked if they could do some stitching too, so next time pics of their little work.

Red and white scrapquilt

A gift for a special friend, I just love how it turn out. Didn't know what to do with the border, and do think the hearts make it much more lovely. I just hope she will like it too...

I'm using the other red scraps for cushions and a other quilt, I think that after all that red, I will be happy to use the other colors lying around.

Head - Belladonna

There she is, I started her a long time ago. I'm still in love with her, but it is a real big job. One day she will be done. This isn't a UFO but a WIP, even if I lay her down for a few months sometimes. I hope with putting her here, it won't take a few months before I do some stitching on her.

I had a great start of the new year, I finished my scrapquilt. I used all my browns and greens and made this one. I do love to use all my scraps, it's so funny to see the fabrics that others would put in the garbage, end up as a beautiful quilt. This one is for a friend who loves to go to Ireland. The colors remember me of the fields in Ireland. Hope she likes it.
